Number Selected

Renumber elements by selection order using a chosen parameter and numbering pattern. Keep this window open and continue interacting with Revit-select/deselect elements, pan/zoom, or undo-then run another pass.

  1. Select Source Element. Click Select Source Element to pick a reference in the model. Its Category, Family, Type, and Element ID are shown for context.
  2. Matching Criteria. Choose how targets are filtered (e.g., Same Category) so numbering applies to the intended set.
  3. Select parameter to host numbering. Pick the parameter that will store the number (e.g., Mark, Comments, a custom parameter).
  4. Numbering Criteria.
    • Enter a numbering format/prefix (e.g., A-### or 01, 02, 03…). The Preview shows the next value that will be assigned.
    • Last assigned number displays the current end of the sequence.
    • Continue from last assigned number: keeps numbering sequential across sessions.
    • Allow duplicates: skips elements that already have a value; does not overwrite existing numbers.
  5. Choose a method.
    • Renumber by Line: select a model line that intersects the target elements; numbering follows the intersection order. Use Flip Numbering Direction to reverse.
    • Renumber by Clicking Order: click elements in the desired sequence; press Esc to finish.
  6. Apply and repeat. Use Revit Undo to revert the last change and rerun with a different pattern or selection.
